Brad Kraus

Brad Kraus is a criminal defence lawyer at KJR Law, practising in Calgary and across the Southern Alberta circuit. He was called to the Bar of Alberta in 2018 and is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta. Raised in small-town Alberta just south of Edmonton, Brad grew up in a policing family — his father served with the Edmonton Police Service for thirty-five years. He practises criminal defence exclusively.

Before attending law school at the University of Saskatchewan, Brad worked in sales and in physically demanding trades — operating heavy equipment in harsh Alberta winters and working in kitchens and on labour crews. Those years before practice shape how he communicates today: he explains complex legal concepts in plain language, on the assumption that the client is intelligent and capable of making decisions when given a real picture of the choices in front of them.

Brad treats each file as a collaboration with the client. Criminal defence cannot be done without the client understanding what is happening, what is coming next, and what their options are at each stage. He returns calls, answers questions, and keeps clients informed — particularly when the case is moving through stages that, without explanation, can be alarming.

Outside the courtroom, Brad is involved in Alberta’s boxing community and sponsors professional boxer Kent Polines.
